Rail
The only railway station is Greenfield. There are train services from Manchester Victoria and from Huddersfield - half-hourly in the early evening but only hourly for a late evening return.
For train times check nationalrail.co.uk or theTrainLine.com. (See History page for times and prices as they were 70 years ago. )
The station is 100 yards from where the marches start for the Greenfield contest. Just walk down hill. Follow a band to get to the main field.
Greenfield station is about mid-way between the Uppermill and Friezland contests - about 1/2 mile from each. Keep straight on at the sharp bend just below the Railway Inn and follow the railway line back towards Manchester for Friezland. Go in the opposite direction from the railway bridge, following the railway line towards Huddersfield for Uppermill.

Boat
The best way to travel to the contests. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal offers access from East and West. The canal passes very close to the Friezland, Grasscroft, Uppermill and Diggle contest sites and within about 1/2 mile of the Dobcross contest (up a steep climb). There are canal boat moorings at:
Diggle (Tunnel-End moorings)
Uppermill Museum (limited)
Wool Road (Uppermill or Dobcross 10 min)
Greenfield (new marina supposed to be opening for 2009)
Friezland
